A record $440 million in prize money is waiting for the 32 participating teams in Qatar for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The winner and runners-up will earn the most significant prizes, totaling $72 million. 

Moreover, the FIFA World Cup 2022 final will be held on Sunday between France and Argentina. The winning team will get a cash reward of $42 million. The runner-up team, on the other hand, will get $30 million in prize money. 

According to sources, each team will get at least $9 million in prize money, growing after each round.

New Technologies 

Football lovers have experienced some advanced technologies featured in this Qatar World Cup. It included the high-tech match ball, integrated with FIFA's Semi-automated Offside Technology (SAOT). Also, an enhanced version of the existing VAR (video assistant referee) has been used in the matches. 

Adidas unveiled 'Al' Rihla,' the official match ball of the FIFA World Cup Qatar. Al Rihla means "the voyage" in "Arabic. It is to accommodate the fastest game speeds possible since it goes quicker in flight than any FIFA World Cup ball. At the heart of the new ball is the unique Adidas Suspension System. It includes a motion sensor that monitors every touch in the game at a pace of 500 times per second.

The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology was introduced at the 2018 Russian World Cup. The technology was so successful that all major European leagues quickly adopted it. 

The new system employs 12 specialized tracking cameras underneath the stadium roofs and up to 29 data points on each player. Thus, they track 50 times per second. It estimates their precise location on the field to monitor the ball. The 29 data points cover all essential body parts that need to be called "offside."

Following the VAR decisions, the data gathered by the cameras and the ball can construct automatic 3D animations. It depicts the exact location of the players at the precise instant.

Off the field, Qatar has provided solutions to assist players and spectators in staying cool in the desert region. The temperatures range from 21 to 26 degrees Celsius in the stadiums. Seven of the eight stadiums have Advanced Cooling Technology.

Why is the FIFA World Cup Qatar So Controversial?

The World Cup 2022 has received immense criticism for violations of human rights. Qatar has created seven new stadiums, hotels, and restaurants and expanded rail networks. Amnesty International says 90% of Qatar's labor force comprises foreign laborers.
